Students are expected to participate fully in their programme of study, engage actively with learning opportunities and take responsibility for their learning. Persistent failure to attend or engage may result in being withdrawn from your course.
Attendance is monitored and recorded by your course team and you should contact them directly if you need to discuss your attendance – firstpoint is unable to make any changes to your attendance record.
Ad Hoc Absence
We know that on occasion there may be unavoidable circumstances that mean you are unable to attend a session, perhaps if you are unwell for example. In this event, please contact your module leader for the sessions you miss as soon as possible, so that the absence can be accurately recorded and next steps discussed.
Advanced Authorised Absence
If you need to request a longer period of authorised absence (up to one week) or a longer break from your studies, please read our information about taking a break from your studies, as there are additional steps to take.
For Nursing & Midwifery students, if you need to request an authorised absence (less than 5 days) due to a medical appointment or other unavoidable commitment, please complete the Authorised Absence form from Registry Services.
Support
If you are dealing with personal circumstances that are impacting your attendance, it’s encouraged to keep your personal academic tutor informed, as attendance is regularly monitored by your course team. You can also speak to firstpoint so that we can help you access relevant support.
If an absence and circumstances affects attendance at a live assessment or examination, or performance with a written assessment, check the mitigating circumstances page for further advice.
