Starting university is an exciting time and we can’t wait to welcome you to University of Worcester. We know there’s lots to think about at the start of your course and that you’ll have lots of questions at the start your student journey.

Help is on hand and these webpages are designed to provide you with guidance and support as you settle into both your course and life at the University of Worcester. But remember, if you are ever unsure where to start, or who to ask, ask firstpoint – we’re here to help you.


The university hosts lots of welcome activities at the start of the academic year for new and returning students. It’s a great way to make friends, settle in and perhaps try something new and so check the Welcome Festival webpage for a full line up. You can also find guidance for things to prepare for before you arrive and lots of frequently asked questions to help you feel more confident as you settle in to student life.


Moving to a new city and finding your way can seem like a lot to manage and so we’ve collected some top tips and information to help you feel more confident exploring the campus and local area.


All new and continuing students are asked to register for their course online via the student platform called SOLE. You’ll need to complete this before you can pick up your student ID card or accommodation keys and so make sure you follow guidance and instructions you receive via email in the lead up to your course. You’ll be given a timeslot to collect your ID card – don’t forget to bring photographic ID with you like a driving licence or passport as it’s a mandatory check.


If you’re moving in to university accommodation you’ll be sent information on how and when to collect your accommodation keys. You might have questions about accessing your university accounts, choosing a secure password, connecting to the wifi, or accessing the IT facilities across campuses – check the IT team’s helpful webpage for hints and tips to help you get started.


Part of being a student will involve making sure you know how to manage your money. View our Money & Finances webpages for information on support available to you throughout your studies. You can also find information about when to expect your first Student Finance and bursary payments, if this is something you’ve applied for and are eligible for.


Studying at university level can be a change to what you are used to and part of your learning journey will involve developing your study skills to help you excel. A really important start is attending and making the most of the induction activities planned for the start of your course as you’ll get an idea of the expectations and support options available, along with the opportunity to meet your course mates. Check the Study Skills pages for some key themes and guidance for new students and make sure you ask for help when you need it.


It’s really important to make sure you have access to local health care when joining the university. Find guidance for registering with a local GP and dentist, accessing out of hours medical support, applying for help with healthcare costs and ensuring you’re up to date on vaccinations on the Student Support & Wellbeing page.


You might find you need access to documents to confirm your student status if you are opening a student bank account for example, or perhaps you’ve been asked for a student Council Tax Exemption Certificate.
