One of the major attractions of the BA, BSc (Hons) degree at University of Worcester is that it allows you to choose from a wide range of modules.
Your module choices allow you to shape your degree to reflect your interests, enhance your employability or study around other commitments such as paid employment, your family or social life.
When to select modules
Each year Registry Services sets a date when continuing or returning students can select their modules. Further information on this can be found on your SOLE Page. Go to ‘Course Information’ select ‘Personal Module Selection’, and then, ‘Select Modules’. The ‘Course Information’ tab will also include details of the deadline for module choices.
Module availability
To find out the availability of modules, you can view the Module Directory via your SOLE Page. If you are unsure which modules to select, you can speak with a Programme Adviser, your Personal Academic Tutor and the Careers Advisers who can offer advice on which modules might be the most appropriate or useful for particular careers or postgraduate study.
Changing a module
If you would like to change a module, the “Module Change Request” is available on your SOLE page under the ‘Course Information’ tab. If needed you can also speak with a Programme Adviser to discuss the change you want to make.
Please be aware that it can take up to 5 working days for your timetable to update after the change has been approved and there are deadlines that apply when making a change. Please see the Registry webpages for the most up to date information.
Module clashes on your timetable
If you have two modules that clash, you will have to make a change to your timetable. If one of your clashing modules runs at another time, or “occurrence”, you can request to move sessions.
In order to move sessions due to a clash in modules please contact the module tutor and request a change. You can check these details on the module directory, which can be found via the ‘Course Information’ tab on your SOLE page.
If there is no alternative occurrence, you will need to change one of your modules and select an alternative one. This can be done by completing a Module Change Request form via the ‘Course Information’ tab on your SOLE page.
Please be aware that it can take up to 5 working days for your timetable to update after the change has been approved.
If you are having ongoing issues with your modules, please speak with a Programme Adviser.
Ways of choosing your modules
Some modules naturally follow on from others and if you have enjoyed them or have done well in the first one, choosing the second one is usually a good move.
If you have a particular career in mind, you may benefit from contacting one of the Careers Advisers to ask whether they feel certain modules would be more appropriate than others. Person Specifications and Job Descriptions of the types of jobs that you would be interested in applying for when you leave university can also provide a useful starting point in highlighting essential or desirable skills. Certain modules may enable you to demonstrate these more effectively than others.
You might want to concentrate on the now rather than careers for the future. In this case focus on picking modules that you know you will enjoy or ones that are of particular interest.
