Registering with a Doctor (GP)

We recommend all students are register with a GP (doctor), and where possible register with a local surgery so that you can easily access medical help when you need it.

How to register: Contact your chosen surgery to check what documents you need (usually ID and address). You’ll fill out a form with your details and medical history.

If you’re not registered locally and need medical advice, call NHS 111 for advice and guidance.

Repeat Prescriptions: If you take regular medication, speak to your GP about arranging repeat prescriptions and how to collect them locally while you’re at university.

Vaccinations: Make sure you’re up to date with key vaccinations, including MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) and Meningitis ACWY. Some courses (like healthcare) have specific requirements—ask your course team if you’re unsure. You may need to request your medical records from your GP, so allow extra time.
