Tuberculosis (TB)

TB (Tuberculosis) is a serious infectious disease caused by bacteria that mainly affects the lungs. It spreads through the air when someone with active TB coughs, speaks, or sneezes.

TB is Preventable and Curable

TB is curable with proper treatment, and early diagnosis is key. Latent TB (inactive TB) can live in your body without symptoms but may become active later.

Who’s at Risk?

Please who have weakened immune systems, or who travel frequently to high TB incidence countries may be at higher risk. Also, anyone who has spent time with someone who has active TB is also at risk.

Symptoms to Watch For

  • a high temperature
  • a runny or blocked nose
  • sneezing
  • a cough
  • red, sore, watery eyes

What to Do

  • Think TB: Know the symptoms and risks.
  • Test TB: Ask your GP about TB testing if you’re at risk.
  • Treat TB: Early treatment prevents serious illness and protects others
