University Mental Health Day

University Mental Health Day – 12th March 2026

What is University Mental Health Day?

Each year, universities across the UK mark University Mental Health Day (UMHD) — a national campaign dedicated to raising awareness, reducing stigma, and encouraging conversations about mental health. This year’s theme, Human Connection, is all about the power of small moments: sharing a chat, checking in on a friend, taking a break with someone, or simply spending a few minutes in a warm, welcoming space.

Why Does Human Connection Matter?

Connection plays a vital role in our wellbeing. Whether you’re new to Worcester, juggling deadlines, balancing work and study, or just feeling a little out of sync, taking a small moment with someone else can make a positive difference. UMHD is all about creating those moments — and reminding you that you’re part of a supportive community.

How are we marking University Mental Health Day?

To celebrate, we are taking our much‑loved “Fancy a Cuppa?” event on tour across campuses. We’re creating relaxed, living‑room style pop‑ups designed to help you pause, unwind, and connect with others in a low‑pressure way. Everyone is welcome — whether you’re stopping for a quick breather, keen to meet new people, or curious about the support available at Worcester.

Fancy a Cuppa?” On Tour – free drinks, friendly faces, and meaningful moments

Drop in for a free hot drink, take part in gentle conversation‑starter activities, or simply enjoy a quiet moment away from the busyness of the day. Pick up one of our helpful guides on the importance of human connection at universitiy, and collect a take‑away tea pack — two teabags you can share with someone else to help keep the connection going beyond UMHD.

Our Student Life Advisers, Counselling and Mental Health Advisers, and Student Wellbeing Champions will be on hand at both events for informal chats, signposting, and wellbeing support.

Connecting All Year Round

Other Activities That Encourage Human Connection

Human connection doesn’t just happen on one day — it’s something we nurture throughout the year. Alongside University Mental Health Day, Student Support & Wellbeing runs regular activities designed to help you meet people, take a break from studying, and feel part of the University community.

  • Birdwatching Walks
Led by our Wellbeing Champions, these gentle walks invite you to spend time in nature, slow down, and enjoy the company of others while exploring wildlife around campus.
  • Craft and Cuppa Club
Relaxing, hands‑busy sessions where you can draw, knit, collage, or create something simple while chatting with others. These sessions are perfect for anyone who prefers low‑pressure, side‑by‑side connection.
  • Pets as Therapy Visits
Our fortnightly visits from Pets as Therapy dogs at our regular Fancy a Cuppa?” event offer a chance to unwind, de‑stress, and enjoy the comfort of spending time with a friendly canine companion. These events often spark natural conversation and shared moments between students.

These activities are all designed to support community, belonging, and meaningful connection throughout the year.
